Hair and makeup styles are subject to change, and up to the discretion of the dance instructors. Hair and makeup styles for upcoming competitions will be listed below as made available. For makeup, follow the generalized makeup guidelines unless otherwise posted.

Generalized Dance Makeup

Tips on how to do your dancers makeup:

Prep the skin:

  • Moisturize the skin to create a smooth base for makeup
  • Apply primer to help makeup last

The face:

  • Use full-coverage foundation in a shade that matches your dancers skin tone
  • Apply setting powder to set the makeup
  • Apply a strong, high-pigmented red/pink blush to cheekbones

Eyes:

  • Blend a dark brown shadow onto the eye lids and blend the edges
  • Use a black liquid or gel liner on the lash line (consider water proof liner)
  • Apply black, waterproof eyeliner to the lashes, or a natural false lash

Lips:

  • outline lips with a red lipliner
  • apply a red, vivid, long-lasting lipstick

Setting Spray:

  • finish with a setting spray for long lasting makeup

Competition Hair (specific to each group)

Each group hairstyle for competitions will be updated here accordingly, including hair pieces if applicable.

Contemporary

  • Juniors: One low middle bun starting at the nape of neck. Left part and no loose hairs. Must be low enough for hat.
  • Seniors: Middle part, low straight pony middle of the head

Lyrical

  • Juniors: One low middle ponytail, pony must start at the nape of neck. Left part and no loose hairs. Hair must be straightened. Take one strand of hair and wrap around base of elastic to cover.
  • Seniors: One low middle ponytail, pony must start at the nape of neck. Left part and no loose hairs. Hair must be straightened. Take one strand of hair and wrap around base of elastic to cover.

Jazz

  • Minis: One high ponytail starting at top of head (NOT on back). Hair must be straightened. No part and no loose hairs.
  • Juniors: Two high ponytails, middle part, hair needs to be straightened and no loose hairs. Use clear or hair colored elastics only.
  • Seniors: One high ponytail starting at top of head (NOT on back). Hair must be straightened. No part and no loose hairs. Take one strand of hair and wrap around base of elastic to cover.

Tap

  • Tiny Tots: High bun, no part or loose hairs. Bun must be visible from front. Wrap loose ends around bun base.
  • Minis: Two Low Braids, No loose Hair, No Bangs
    • Recommended - Hair Glue stick to hold back tiny hairs.
  • Juniors: High Straight Pony, No Bangs
  • Seniors: Middle part, low straight pony middle of the head

Ballet

  • Tiny Tots: High bun, no part or loose hairs. Bun must be visible from front. Wrap loose ends around bun base.
  • Minis: High bun, no part or loose hairs. Bun must be visible from front. Wrap loose ends around bun base.
  • Juniors: One low middle bun starting at the nape of neck. Left part and no loose hairs. Must be low enough for hat.
  • Seniors: One low middle bun starting at the nape of neck. Left part and no loose hairs. Must be low enough for hat.

Acro

  • Minis: Middle Part Low Bun
  • Juniors: Low Bun, Middle Part
  • Seniors: Middle part, low straight pony middle of the head

Hip-Hop

  • Minis: Two high space buns, middle part. Buns must be visible from the front. Use clear or hair colored elastics only. No loose bangs or flyaways. 
  • Juniors: Two French braids, middle part, no bangs or loose hair. Use clear or hair colored elastics only.
  • Seniors: Two French braids, middle part, no bangs or loose hair. Use clear or hair colored elastics only.

Musical Theater

  • All: High Straight Side Pony On Right, Headband
